ResMed AirSense 12 AutoSet Review

Things have become a bit stagnant in the CPAP machine world.

ResMed AirSense 12 AutoSet Review

ResMed is the market leader by far, and now has little competition. So it seems there is no rush for them to innovate.

As of mid-2025, the ResMed AirSense 11 Autoset, their latest flagship model, has been around for about 4 years, and the ResMed AirSense 10 Autoset for around 10 years. The 10 model is still widely used and can still be purchased new. So what’s going on?

The truth is, we don’t know.

ResMed has not officially launched this device. There are no confirmed specs, no press releases, and no product pages yet.

But given ResMed’s history—and the huge popularity of the AirSense 10 and AirSense 11—it’s understandable that many of us are eagerly speculating about what could be next.

Below, I’ll break down:
✅ What is confirmed (or likely, based on past launches)
✅ What’s rumored or speculated
✅ Why so many people are excited

Why All the Hype?

Let’s be honest: ResMed has set a very high bar.
The AirSense 10 is a workhorse CPAP that has won over thousands of users for its reliability and simplicity, including me
Then the AirSense 11 came along with:
✔ A touchscreen
✔ Bluetooth connectivity to the myAir app
✔ Over-the-air firmware updates
✔ A streamlined design

However, the water tray is disliked by many people due to its tendency to spill, and the tube’s direct connection at the back prevents it from being placed flush against the wall.

But with the AirSense 10 and 11 still widely available and respected, what can we expect to see in the 12 model?

What’s Actually Confirmed?

To date, nothing official has been released by ResMed about an AirSense 12 model.
All details you see online are either:

  • Analyst speculation
  • Sleep supplier wish lists
  • Or (in some cases) unofficial leaks that may never come to market

If you see an online store claiming you can pre-order the AirSense 12, be extremely cautious—ResMed has not published an official launch date.

What Experts and Users Expect (Speculative)

Still, it’s fun—and useful—to look at what might be coming, so you can plan ahead if you’re thinking about an upgrade. Here are the top features people are speculating about, based on ResMed’s trajectory and recent patents:

1️⃣ A Tubeless, Maskless Option

This is the biggest rumor:
ResMed has reportedly been testing a tubeless nasal CPAP that uses a tiny “micro-blower” worn just below the nose.

Why it matters:
If this is real and works effectively, it could be revolutionary for people who:

  • Feel claustrophobic with full-face masks
  • Toss and turn and hate being tethered to tubing
  • Want something discreet for travel

No mainstream manufacturer has brought a fully tubeless CPAP to market yet, so this would be a big leap.

Reality check:
While concept prototypes have been seen, there’s no proof that production units are anywhere near ready. The technology faces challenges, like:

  • Delivering high-enough pressure
  • Ensuring CO₂ washout
  • Maintaining battery life through the night

2️⃣ AI-Powered Pressure Adjustments

The AirSense 11 already has auto-adjusting pressure (AutoSet), but ResMed is investing heavily in AI.
Speculation suggests the AirSense 12 may use machine learning to:

  • Predict apneas before they happen
  • Adjust exhalation relief dynamically
  • Fine-tune ramp settings to your personal sleep patterns

Why it matters:
More intelligent pressure adjustments could mean:
✔ Fewer awakenings
✔ Lower average pressure (more comfort)
✔ Better overall treatment effectiveness

3️⃣ Enhanced Noise Reduction

Another likely area of improvement: even quieter operation.
Some CPAP users still hear the gentle “hiss” of airflow or the mask vent. A few industry watchers think the AirSense 12 could:

  • Use redesigned vents to reduce exhalation noise
  • Introduce “whisper valves” to dampen airflow sounds

Why it matters:
The less you notice your machine, the better you sleep—and the happier your bed partner.

4️⃣ Smarter Humidification

ResMed’s Climate Control humidification already adapts to room conditions, but there are hints they may:

  • Incorporate more precise humidity sensors
  • Offer optional waterless humidification (like their travel machines)

Why it matters:
Better humidity management = less dry mouth and sinus irritation.

5️⃣ Expanded myAir App Features

Many CPAP users love the myAir app, which already gives you:

  • Usage hours
  • Mask fit scores
  • Leak rates
  • Apnea events

Future iterations may include:

  • Real-time notifications if your mask leaks
  • Integration with wearables (Apple Watch, Fitbit)
  • AI-driven coaching

Why it matters:
More data and support can help you stay motivated and compliant.

6️⃣ Sustainability and Design Tweaks

One final area of speculation: greener materials and smarter packaging.

  • Smaller footprints to reduce plastic
  • More recycled materials
  • Lower power consumption

What Does This Mean for You?

If you’re in the market for a CPAP machine right now, the AirSense 11 is still the gold standard.
It’s widely available, fully supported, and highly rated.

If you want to hold out for the next big thing, don’t forget to put your health first and purchase a machine that is already available.

Be Careful of Unverified Claims

Websites and eBay listings are claiming to sell or pre-order the AirSense 12.
👉 Don’t fall for it.
Until you see an official press release on ResMed’s own website, assume it’s not available yet.

My Take

Personally, I’m excited to see what ResMed comes up with next.
If even half of these speculated features are real—a tubeless design, smarter AI, quieter operation—the AirSense 12 could be the most user-friendly CPAP ever made.

But until it’s official, the AirSense 11 remains an excellent choice.
